One of the advantages of a protracted development cycle is that the game accumulates an impressive historical record. SpyParty’s competitive history is rich for any game, and for a game still in Early Access, it’s practically unheard of. With that in mind, I’ve made an attempt to identify and describe the greatest competitive matches in the game’s history.
There were a handful of difficult omissions, and the thumb’s been put on the scale ever so slightly to try to get a good cross-section of time periods, event types, and players. Marginal things had to come into play, because we sure don’t lack for options, and I’m already dreading the inevitable “oh, right, I forgot about that one!” that’s sure to follow publication. Because these choices were so difficult already I didn’t dare try to rank them, but even going on gut feel it came out to exactly 10.
Compiling this list and assembling the multimedia trinkets sprinkled throughout brought back many fond memories, but a lot of vicarious stress and excitement as well. I suppose it’s a testament to the game’s power that reliving these moments can be so affecting, even years later. I hope you find these memories as fun and thrilling as I did.
